1903 puts on Brave New World

It's official.  We're doing Aldous Huxley's Brave New World next year as our full length play.  It's set in the future where babies are no longer "born," they're decanted and programmed with hypnopaedia (sort of like hyponosis...but starting as an embryo) into 5 castes of society, Alphas, Betas, Gammas, Deltas and Epsilons.  It's really intense and has tons of roles (again, sorry alumni, only current students, unless we don't have enough auditionees) of all sizes for both men and women (over 40 all together).  Head to your local library and check out the book version (originally written in 1932) for a little lite summer reading.
Auditions will be September 8th and 9th from 3:00-5:00 in the auditorium.  Shows will be November 21 and 22 at 7:00pm and November 23 at 2:00pm.  Is that enough warning to get some alumni to come see their former teacher who affected their lives in such a lasting way as to give meaning to the word synergy, dread to the foods toast and bacon, and lifetime significance to the number 1903?  :)  Come back and visit.  I'd/We'd love to see you!
~Mrs Blazi
PS--Melinda or Jonathan, please post this on the Troupe's myspace.  Thanks!

I'm glad you all like it. It was one of my favorite books when I was in high school. My 10th grade english teacher had us do a whole year of "apocolyptical" books. Animal Farm, 1984, Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451. All great. So, when I saw the play version of BNW at STate, I picked up a copy. I actually like it better than the book. I checked it out at the library to do a comparison and much of what people sited as Huxley's weaknesses in the book (lack of feeling for individual characters, particularly) is really done well in the play version. I'm very excited. Hope we can do it justice. Depending on who shows up to auditions, I'm thinking of the possibility of mainstage application, but that means over 40 people have to have a 2.0GPA. We'll see. No promises at this point. But, definitely come check us out.
